A hand crafted design dating from 1855 and influenced by the architects and furniture makers Robert Adams and Thomas Sheraton.

The genuine mahogany case with feathered veneer has an inlaid "rope" edgeline. The door is glazed and has lacquered brass fittings. The silver-plated dial with vernier adjustment is graduated in inches of mercury and has a thermometer in celsius and fahrenheit.
