This ship-of-the-line mercury marine barometer with gimbal is a fine piece of English craftsmanship dating from 1840.

The genuine mahogany casing is complimented by its stylish black edgeline. The mercury tube with graduation in inches is visible above the gimbal. A silver-plated dial provides the backing for a sliding vernier for reading and recording measurements, with another for weather descriptions. A spirit thermometer in celsius and fahrenheit is secured towards the base of the stick on a silver-plated dial. Lacquered brass fittings finish its tasteful design.
