Manufactured and tested to UK Met Office standards this screen will meet the most demanding technical requirements. It is constructed from high performance plastics and polyester powder coated aluminium that will not degrade with time in the same way as more wooden types.

Optional extras include thermometer clips and a powder coated stand.

The Screens have been developed latterly in conjunction with the U.K. MetOffice who share the design rights.

They are in use throughtout the U.K. synoptic station network - for both manual and automated observation. Many are now used offshore - mainly on North sea oil rigs. Others are in use in Iceland, Ireland, Europem, Hong Kong, Africa and the Mddle east.

The U.K. Met Office conducted a detailed test into the performance characteristics of the new Screens. Two with white only internal louvers, and two with black internal louvers were tested. As a result the U.K. Met Office considered that the use of black internal louvers produced a better barrier to radiation, especially when this is high - and therefore more representative readings.

Overall performance is similar to traditional wooden Screens. However our Screens have faster responsetimes - a lower thermal lag. They have slightly better airflows although the psycrometric constantis the same. Most importantly, the perfomance need not suffer - as with wooden Screens - becauseof a deterioration to the paintwork between the painting cycles. Our Screens remain white andglossy just with a quick occasional clean.

The Screens will require little or no maintenance at all. The materials they are made from will all last for many years. You won’t need to maintainor paint them during their lifetime - just an occasional clean to the outside is all that’s required.

The roof and floor panels are made from a very high grade of UPVC - one which offers outstanding UV resistance as well as resistance to biological, chemical and insect attack. The louvers are made from a premium grade Acrylic (PMMA) with an added UV stabiliser togive an extremely low yellowing index.
The frame of the Screens is made from chrome-rich aluminium. This is subjected to a 10-stage conversion, priming and painting process, which finishes with the electrostatic deposition of a polyester powder followed by baking in an oven.

The standard screen is supplied without anny internal supports to allow it to house all maner of sensors or recording instruments. We offer the option of a standard mounting with brass clips for 4 thermometers.

We offer a polyester powder coated (PPC) aluminium support frame otherwise the screen can be mounted on your own existing of fabricated frame. Just remember to allow the air to circulate have the screen approximately 1.2m above ground.
