This unique instrument provides an accurate measurement of atmospheric pressure at any temperature in its range. It has a classical combination of polished oak, turned brass and hand-blown glass showcasing traditional scientific craftsmanship. It is simple to set up and adjust using the knurled thumbwheel and the sliding temperature scale.

The instrument represents a development of the sympiesometer as an attractive wall-mounted instrument. The instrument consists of a captive gas reservoir connected by a glass helix to a liquid reservoir. Temperature compensation is achieved by providing a thermometer with the correct rate mounted vertically downwards alongside the glass helix together with a sliding scale. This scale has an index which is aligned with the end of the thermometer thread, after which the atmospheric pressure can be read from the glass helix using the adjacent pressure calibrations. Additional precision is achieved using a low volatility mineral oil as the barometric fluid.
