The reason why the top 2 lines on the display flash is because it has
lost transmission. It could be caused by low batteries in either unit. While this is happening your rain gauge will be unable to record the
rain fall. Change the batteries in both units (unless you have just done
this). To fix the problem what you need to do is:
1. Inside the collector cup (outside) in the battery compartment, press the
reset button.
2. Then press the reset button on the back of the main unit. (Please note
this will erase all of your totals.)
This should correct the problem and allow the rain gauge to work properly.

perfect, I have been pulling my hair out for a week trying to solve the flashing rainfall totals, I tried everything, then today I tried what you suggested and it works, my comment now is, why didn't they put that in the manual in the first place, usual story, manual put together by a person who doesn't actually have one!
