When choosing a Weather Station with a PC connection take into account which type of connection you would prefer.
“USB” is the latest type being easily connected although not necessarily the best solution. For some it is important as a laptop may not have a “Serial” socket.
“Serial” is the type most used at present and will connect to most PC`s ( To identify whether your PC has a “Serial” connector this can normally found on the rear panel and is a male “D” type with 9 pins. Some modern machines for domestic use do not include it.
Which Stations can be used with “Serial to USB” converters
In
The Oregon Scientific range the WMR928 has a serial PC connection but will also work with a quality “Serial to USB” converter. The WMR100 is supplied with a “USB” type
In the TechnoLine / La Crosse Technology range the WS2300 and WS2500 models will work with a Serial to USB adapter.
Some of the systems will not or will have difficulty working over a “USB” adapter. This includes the WS3600, WS3500 and WS8610. We recomend that you only use these with a 9pin serial conection (com port).
If you have a PC without a 9 pin RS232 connection then you can add one easily buy purchasing an expansion card which would be the prefered option.
If you require a PCI expansion card you may like to try http://www.easysync.co.uk/
If you are unable to fit and expansion card and need to purchase a PC connection converter you may like to try http://www.directusbstore.co.uk
